2013 Scholarship Requirements & Instructions
The 2013 scholarship application period has ended. Look for information about 2014 scholarships this Fall.

Current scholarship candidates will be notified of the status of their applications by mid-May 2013.

NATA Foundation Scholarships

The NATA Foundation currently awards four levels of scholarships.

• Entry Level Undergraduate
• Entry Level Master’s
• Master’s
• Doctorate

2013 Eligibility Requirements for all levels of scholarships.

All applicants MUST meet the four requirements below:

1. Have been a member of NATA by November 1, 2012 and have membership for 2013.
2. Have performed with distinction in his/her: Academic program and institution; Athletic training duties/assignments; Academic coursework; Community service.
3. Submit a complete Section I of on-line scholarship. Section I includes your demographic information and the name and contact information for your Institutional Representative and Nominating Certified Athletic Trainer by January 21, 2013.
4. Submit finalized on-line scholarship application and ensure that the NATA office (fndstaff@nata.org) has received your Institutional Representative Letter and Nominating Certified Athletic Trainer Letter by Monday February 4, 2013.

2013 Entry Level Undergraduate Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

An Entry Level Undergraduate Applicant MUST:

1. Be enrolled in a CAATE accredited undergraduate program that concludes with a baccalaureate degree;
2. Be in his/her junior year OR have completed a minimum of five (5) semesters or seven (7) quarters of college coursework, including the Fall of 2012 (this equates to the applicant’s last 60 credits of college coursework);
3. Have a cumulative overall GPA of at least 3.2 (based on a 4.0 maximum) for ALL undergraduate courses (i.e., last 60 credits) including the Fall of 2012 (NOTE: transfer transcripts may have to be used in GPA calculation);
4. Have one academic year in undergraduate program remaining.

2013 Entry Level Master’s Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

An Entry Level Master’s Applicant MUST:

1. Be enrolled in a CAATE accredited entry-level master’s program that concludes with a master’s degree;
2. Be in his/her first year of an entry-level master’s degree program;
3. Have a cumulative overall GPA of at least 3.2 (based on a 4.0 maximum) for the last 40 credits of his/her undergraduate courses and all of his/her entry level master’s courses including the Fall of 2012;
4. Have one academic year in entry-level master’s program remaining.

2013 Master’s Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

The Master’s Scholarship applicant MUST:

1. Be enrolled in a master’s program that concludes with a master’s degree;
2. Be or plan to be, enrolled in a master’s degree program.  An applicant may apply during his/her final academic year of undergraduate work OR any time prior to his/her final academic year of master’s work;
3. Have a cumulative overall GPA of at least 3.2 (based on a 4.0 maximum) for the last 40 credits of his/her undergraduate courses and all of his/her master’s courses including the Fall of 2012;
4. Have one academic year in master’s program remaining.

2013 Doctoral Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

The Doctoral Scholarship applicant MUST:

1. Be enrolled in a doctoral program that concludes with a doctoral degree;
2. Be or plan to be, enrolled in a doctoral degree program.  An applicant may apply during his/her final academic year of master’s work OR any time prior to his/her final academic year/dissertation year of doctoral work;
3. Have a cumulative overall GPA of at least 3.2 (based on a 4.0 maximum) for all graduate courses including master’s and doctoral degree and any courses from Fall of 2012;
4. Have one academic year in doctoral program remaining.

FAQs

How much money is awarded for each scholarship?
$2,300

I won an NATA Scholarship. Do I have to be enrolled in classes to receive my money?
Yes, the selected applicant MUST provide proof of enrollment in an appropriate entry level undergraduate, entry level master’s, master’s or doctoral program for the 2013/2014 academic year before a check will be issued:

1. Proof of enrollment forms will be mailed to winners with instructions of how to process and return to NATA Foundation office.
2. Proof of enrollment can come from a variety of university sources, but must be official documentation. The recipient is expected to remain enrolled as a full time student in that program.

NOTE: An exception may be granted if the recipient is assigned to active military service or due to other extenuating circumstances acceptable to the NATA Foundation Scholarship Committee.

Can I apply for multiple scholarships throughout my years of education?
Yes, as you progress through your academic career in athletic training or an allied health profession (maintaining NATA membership and involvement) you may apply for the different levels of scholarships.

Who is qualified to act as an Institutional Representative and what does s/he need to do?
This individual verifies enrollment in appropriate program based on category of scholarship chosen AND must also be able to verify your reported GPA. Therefore, s/he will need access to your transcripts with grades assigned.

Acceptable Institutional Representatives:

• For Entry Level Undergraduate – Program Director, Clinical Education Coordinator, Department Chair
• For Entry Level Master’s – Program Director, Clinical Education Coordinator, or Department Chair
• For Master’s or Doctoral – Department Chair or Thesis/Dissertation Chair.

Who is qualified to act as my Nominating Certified Athletic Trainer and what does s/he need to do?
This individual is a BOC certified athletic trainer, who is an NATA member in good standing, and who can attest to the applicant’s skills, abilities and scholarly activities as they relate to the applicant. We encourage you to pick someone who will be able to assess you relative to your peers and past scholarship winners (if possible). S/he has agreed to write you a letter of support for your application.

When do I need to have my personal information completed and my Institutional Representative and Nominating Certified Athletic Trainer information completed?
By January 21, 2013.

When do I need to submit all parts of the scholarship application and ensure that my Institutional Representative and Nominating Certified Athletic Trainer have sent their letters?
By Monday February 4, 2013.

Do I need to send in my transcripts to the NATA office?
No, but we recommend you have transcripts delivered to your Institutional Representative, as this individual will need them to calculate your GPA.
